This painting was commissioned by the Orem Fire Department as a retirement gift honoring Captain Tandy’s twenty years of service. The firefighter is central in the composition and as the viewers eye looks on, we see a dissipating storm revealing Mount Timpanogo’s in the background and Orem City in the foreground. The dark clouds may also be a metaphor for the impending emergency calls in the community that the Fire Department serves. The subject in the painting portrayed in detail with the background being summarized with quick lines and muted colors. The red reflective helmet commands attention with as does the subjects confident stance. The lines of the fireman's straps and shoulder harness anchors the form and symbolizes strength, safety and authority.
