This painting was a given as a gift to my brother. The first impression of this portrait is one of masculinity and independent outlook. Brian is the focal point of image captured in direct sunlight and dressed in his day to day attire. The use of orange and blue colors create balance within the composition, with the subjects warm tones creating visual energy in contrast to the quiet, soft blue background. Additionally, the warmness of Bri’s face emphasizes his vitality and independent personality with the surrounding blue hues revealing his quiet, cool, down to earth nature. Technically, the paintings watercolor brushstrokes dramatize the subjects virility with the scattered, indefinite line work creating an electric buzz to the image. The background was created with an airbrush and diluted ink spots for effect. I feel that this painting successfully captured my brother’s personality. He liked to too.
