This original watercolor painting is 8x10 inches with a one inch border that surrounds the image on paper
Respite is a self portrait of myself, onbe of many that Iv’e done throughout my life time. Looking through older self portraits I’m reminded how they become visual confession of my soul. In this rendition I approaching my sixties and experiencing the wear on body and mind. After working as a Flight Nurse for nearly 25 years, night shifts, remodeling a house, and rock and ice climbing weekly, I would say that I have not slowed down much. However this painting reminds me that I am fatigued and life has certainly been a visceral experience.
The painting’s subject is off center to the right, as I ponder the leftist thinking and contributions to this world. My eyes are closed, again in thought, reflecting in pause to the nature of the reality that we all live in. My face and posture depictsin a calm mediative state as I have learned over time to tame my passions and amended for my sins. The color palette utilizes the warm feelings of peace in my face against the harsh, neutral and hard background of our existense.
