This original watercolor painting of Abraham Lincoln as he is represented in the Lincoln Monument in the Washington Monument. Lincoln is an individual in history that I admire for his contribution in holding the United States together during our country's Civil War. I don't view him as a hero, but as an imperfect man that did all that he could do to maintain a free country and in so doing freeing the slaves and opening the door for all people to be free.

The determined gaze and clenched fist of Lincoln captured by the sculptor, Daniel Chester, is echoed in this paintings composition. The red hue's used in the painting remind me of the blood sacrifice of the men that fought and died in the war as well as the men, women and children that suffered in slavery. The subtle blue reflections on Lincoln reminds me of the melancholy he carried through his entire Presidency in maintaining a (im)perfect Union.

This painting is 8x10 inches with a 1 inch border surrounding the 6x8 inch painting. The piece is painted on Arches 140lb cold press watercolor paper. It is sealed in cellophane with a cardboard backing to prevent damage.
