State Street, 2025
Original 8x10 watercolor painting on paper with a one inch border surrounding the image.
This painting was painted on open air on State Street in Salt Lake City, Utah in the late fall. The gentlemen in the painting was as interested in watching me as I was in capturing this scene. The colors in the palette are muted due to the bright, autumn, afternoon sun. The use of complimentary colors, yellow and purple, mixed with degrading hues create an atmospheric illusion that I think, defines mid-town State Street.Vintage signage in contrast to the background inspired me for this composition. Utah has a history of being a crossroad for interstate travel and vintage signs like this dot the highways and cities across the State of Utah.
