Madam X, 2025

8x10 inches with a one inch white border

Giclee Print on watercolor paper

This print of my original painting created with acrylic paint. The giclée prints offered here measure 11 × 14 inches, with a 1-inch border.

The painting is reminiscent of John Singer Sargent’s 1884 oil painting of the same name. When Sargent’s painting was exhibited in France, it was met with distaste and described as vulgar and overly sexualized. Critics also objected to the stark contrast between the subject and her background.

My interpretation of Madame X carries some of those same tones, but presents the subject in a less formal pose and a palette of muted green hues that softens her presence. My impression of Madame X celebrates her strong feminine presence after a very public exhibition—now in the privacy of her dressing room, where she reveals a more vulnerable side away from the gawking eyes of the public.
