Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy, the bookmark draws on the poem’s vision of Hell as a descending funnel shaped by Satan’s fall. It reflects the soul’s journey from confusion and sin toward self-awareness, repentance, and ultimately clarity.
While creating this piece, I considered the nature of evil. Rather than existing as an external force, I see it as something inherent in every person—an impulse we are responsible for confronting and restraining. Assigning blame to a supernatural figure removes personal accountability.
Satan is rendered symbolically: the green palette suggests jealousy, greed, and immaturity—forces that erode both individual character and society. His strong, virile form implies that evil lies just beneath the surface, ready to emerge if left unchecked. The horns signify dominance and defiance, standing in opposition to compassion, humility, and restraint.
