This watercolor painting was created on a sunny day, during siesta, in the town of Estepona that sits on Mediterranean coast of Spain. Looking east, The church in the background Iglesia de Santa Maria de los Remedios, or the Church of Saint Mary of the remedies. The Painting was started at mid-day and reflects the bright Mediterranean sunlight off the white walls of the buildings. Colors of the vegetation and flowers stand out from the white and beige walls of the city. I was impressed with how the sky and cityscape nearly blended in the light of the afternoon. It gives the painting an airy clean feel atmosphere and captures the relaxed feel of this costal city.

The church steeple draws the viewer from the bottom of the composition up the street, where the eye enjoys the pink and red flowers and then arrives at basillica where it continues it’s journey upward with the steeple into a clear pale blue sky.
